چکیده

In the graph avoidance game two players alternatingly color edges of a graph G in red and in blue respectively. The player who first creates a monochromatic subgraph isomorphic to a forbidden graph F loses. A symmetric strategy of the second player ensures that, independently of the first player’s strategy, the blue and the red subgraph are isomorphic after every round of the game. We address the class of those graphs G that admit a symmetric strategy for all F and discuss relevant graph-theoretic and complexity issues. We also show examples when, though a symmetric strategy on G generally does not exist, it is still available for a particular F . 1Computer Science Department, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM 88003, USA. 2Institut für Informationssysteme, Technische Universität Wien, Favoritenstraße 9, A-1040 Wien, Austria. 3Research partly supported by Austrian Science Foundation grant Z29-INF. 4Department of Mechanics & Mathematics, Lviv University, Universytetska 1, 79000 Lviv, Ukraine. 5Research was partly done while visiting the Institut für Informationssysteme at the Technische Universität Wien, supported by a Lise Meitner Fellowship of the Austrian Science Foundation (FWF grant M 532). Graph Ramsey games

We consider combinatorial avoidance and achievement games based on graph Ramsey theory: The players take turns in coloring still uncolored edges of a graph G, each player being assigned a distinct color, choosing one edge per move. In avoidance games, completing a monochromatic subgraph isomorphic to another graph A leads to immediate defeat or is forbidden and the first player that cannot move...

A review on symmetric games: theory, comparison and applications

Game theory models decision makers' behaviors in strategic situations. Since the structures of games are different, behavior and preferences of the players are different in various types of game. This paper reviews various situations of games. Here, characteristics of some common games are discussed and compared. Specifically, we focus on a group of games called symmetric games including Prison...

Connected, Bounded Degree, Triangle Avoidance Games

We consider variants of the triangle-avoidance game first defined by Harary and rediscovered by Hajnal a few years later. A graph game begins with two players and an empty graph on n vertices. The two players take turns choosing edges within Kn, building up a simple graph. The edges must be chosen according to a set of restrictions R. The winner is the last player to choose an edge that does no...

A NOTE ON THE COMMUTING GRAPHS OF A CONJUGACY CLASS IN SYMMETRIC GROUPS

The commuting graph of a group is a graph with vertexes set of a subset of a group and two element are adjacent if they commute. The aim of this paper is to obtain the automorphism group of the commuting graph of a conjugacy class in the symmetric groups. The clique number, coloring number, independent number, and diameter of these graphs are also computed.

Congestion Games with Polytopal Strategy Spaces

Congestion games are a well-studied class of games that has been used to model real-world systems such as Internet routing. In many congestion games, each player’s number of strategies can be exponential in the natural description of the game. Most existing algorithms for game theoretic computation, from computing expected utilities and best responses to finding Nash equilibrium and other solut...
